Chris Bernardo is the President and CEO of Commercial District Services, LLC (CDS). CDS is a leading provider of supplemental maintenance, ambassador and marketing services for commercial business districts and outdoor public spaces throughout northern New Jersey. Chris serves several districts in Hudson, Essex and Bergen Counties, including: The Journal Square SID, Jackson Hill Main Street SID and Colgate Center Property Owners Association in Jersey City; the Ironbound BID, Mount Prospect Avenue NID, and Bergen|Lyons|Clinton SID in Newark; the South Orange Village Center Alliance in South Orange; the Hackensack Main Street Alliance in Hackensack; as well as the River Road Improvement Corporation and Broadway Improvement Corporation in Fair Lawn and the Fort Lee Business District Alliance in Fort Lee.
In addition to his work with Improvement Districts, Chris also provides service to several privately managed public spaces in the New York City metro region, including: The Coney Art Walls Project in Coney Island, Military Park in Newark and Nathanael Greene Waterfront Park in Jersey City.
Through his work as a public space manager, Chris works closely with BID managers, municipal staff, local law enforcement, elected officials and district stakeholders to develop and implement a broad range of public space improvement programs, including: Outdoor Maintenance and Sanitation services, Quality-of-Life Management, Public Safety Supervision/Advocacy, and Public Space Event Programming.
Chris is a graduate of Montclair State University, with a degree in Political Science and is a former member of AmeriCorps, Bill Clinton’s National Service Program, in which he served as a Project Manager for the Montana Conservation Corps.
Chris resides in Northern New Jersey with his wife and son. In his spare time, Chris enjoys spending time with his family, kayaking in the Hudson and photographing great public spaces.
