Beth Anne Macdonald has joined Commercial District Services LLC (CDS) as Director of Community Planning and Development, according to Chris Bernardo, President of CDS.
In the newly created role of Director of Community Planning and Development, Beth will be responsible for creating and implementing economic development and placemaking strategies for an expanding portfolio of communities that CDS serves across Northern New Jersey.
“We are thrilled to have Beth join the CDS team,” said Bernardo. “Beth’s passion for thoughtful,community-centric development and placemaking, matched with our experience in managing Business Improvement Districts and public spaces, will allow us to offer an even greater range of services to those communities seeking to encourage new development opportunities or obtain skilled management of their Business Improvement District or privately managed public space.”
Ms. Macdonald brings almost 20 years of community development and management experience to the CDS team including her work in Downtown Somerville Alliance as the Executive Director, taking its Business Improvement District to the “next level” with the creation of the award-winning Division Street Pedestrian Plaza, and under her leadership, garnering a coveted NJAPA “Great Downtowns” designation in 2016. Beth also served as the Executive Director of Maplewood’s Springfield Avenue Partnership for nearly a decade and has worked with the Borough of Roselle Park to establish a new Office of Economic Development.
Beth is a graduate of the International Downtown Association’s (IDA) Emerging Leader Fellowship Program and also serves on the IDA Awards Committee, where she has the opportunity to connect with placemaking and economic development leaders from around the world. With a degree in Anthropology, she continues to be an impassioned student of all aspects of community-building.
CDS provides a broad range of management and outdoor services to Business Improvement Districts throughout North Jersey, including some of New Jersey’s largest municipalities like Newark, Jersey City, Paterson, Elizabeth, Hackensack and Fair Lawn.
